I will be talking to Dr. Stacy Bell from the show room floor! Dr.Stacey Bell has been a registered dietitian for 35 years, and has worked in that capacity and conducted clinical research studies for 20 years. She received a doctorate in nutrition from Boston University, with Honors in 1994. She was on the faculty at Harvard Medical School in Boston, and has published over 70 peer-reviewed scientific articles. Her research interests included obesity, diabetes, cancer, AIDS, burned patients, and critical illness. Faced with the challenge of counseling her overweight patients, and skeptical of exaggerated claims by some dietary supplements, Stacey J. Bell, D.Sc., dietitian and author decided to conduct her own research project. She took pad and paper into her local drug store and began writing down all the ingredients and ingredient blends for the myriad of supplements being marketed for weight loss. She, along with her colleagues, Wendy Van Ausdal and Greg Grochoski performed a thorough search of scientific journals to determine which of the ingredients were shown to be effective based on published clinical studies. Their goal: “To make consumers, medical professionals, and retailers aware of those supplements that will provide the best results based on published clinical data.” The full results of the study are published in the article, “Do Dietary Supplements Help Promote Weight Loss,” Journal of Dietary Supplements, March, 2009. staceyjbell.com
Lifestyle Show 12:00-1:00
Mark Blumenthal from the American Botanical Council will be her to talk to us about herbal medicine. He is the founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC), the editor/publisher of HerbalGram, and the senior editor of three of ABC’s books. He represents ABC in the media, to ABC stakeholders, and in dozens of appearances at conventions, conferences, and other appearances. He has guided ABC strategically since its founding. The American Botanical Council (ABC) was founded by Mark Blumenthal and incorporated in November 1988 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit education organization. ABC's staff and boards work together to provide education using science-based and traditional information to promote the responsible use of herbal medicine. abc.herbalgram.org
