realized his calling to medicine from an early age. As a boy growing up in New York, he was greatly affected by his mother's painful battle with diabetes, glaucoma, and eventual blindness. Though helpless in alleviating her suffering, he felt that as a doctor, he might be able to help others. He credits her illness with causing him to look deeper into himself, and helping him become the kind of doctor who truly cares about his patients. Dr. Sinatra has also devoted a significant amount of time to teaching others about heart health. For 17 years, he served on the Connecticut State Medical Education Committee, and he currently works with medical students as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Connecticut's School of Medicine. Additionally, he has used his experience and knowledge to help educate his peers, both as a frequent speaker at medical conferences and as a section editor with the Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine. He will be here this morning to talk about heart health. For more on him and his philosophy of medicine please visit his website at www.heartmdinstitue.com
I will also have on my shoe this morning another physician to talk more on the subject of heart health! Dr. Delany is a multiple board certified ( Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Critical Care, and Geriatrics) integrative medical physician who has been in the private practice of medicine for over 20 years in Milton, Massachusetts. Dr. Delany has specialized training in both Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine. He is a caring physician, an excellent lecturer, and an experienced cardiology and integrative medical consultant. While maintaining a clinical practice that focuses on Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Preventive Medicine, he has also been actively involved in Complementary Alternative Medicine. He seeks out the best of both traditional and alternative medicine for his patients. Dr. Delany strongly believes in looking at all aspects of a patient's life to assist in the development of a comprehensive, individualized, and preventive treatment program. He currently uses two relatively new personalized tools of Biomeridian Testing and DNA testing to assist in discovering an individual's current medical status and future risks. Biomeridian Testing allows a comprehensive noninvasive evaluation of a person's energetic health and balance. DNA testing provides an understanding of a person’s genetic predispositions toward future diseases and helps guide what therapy might be utilized to prevent, minimize or delay the onset of future disease. www.drdelany.com

A stunning work of in-depth journalism in the tradition of Random Family, Helen Thorpe's Just Like Us takes us deep into an American subculture — that of Mexican immigrants — largely hidden from the mainstream. We meet four girls on the eve of their senior prom, in Denver, Colorado. Each is bright and ambitious and an excellent student. Their leader, Marisela, dazzles teachers during the day and spends her evenings checking groceries to help pay the bills. She dreams of college and a professional career — but she doesn't have a green card or a Social Security number because her parents brought her across the border illegally. This brilliant, fast-paced work of narrative journalism is a vivid coming-of-age story about girlhood, friendship, and, most of all, identity — what it means to fake an identity, steal an identity, or inherit an identity from one's parents and country. No matter what one's opinions are about immigration, Just Like Us offers fascinating insight into one of our most complicated social issues today. The girls, their families, those who welcome them, and those who object to their presence all must grapple with the same deep dilemma: Who is an American? Who gets to live in America? And what happens when we don't agree?
Since his retirement in the early nineties Kyle Keiderling has been a free lance journalist, contributing articles to Basketball Times and the Lincoln Library of Sports Champions. He is the author of the highly acclaimed, Shooting Star: The Bevo Francis Story, which is a biography of college basketball's greatest scorer and his Rio Grande College team that became a national sensation in the 1950's. He will be here this afternoon to discuss his newest novel, Heart of a Lion : Life, Death, and Legacy of Hank Gathers. In March 1990 Philly native Hank Gathers, a senior at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, was the leading candidate for college basketball’s player of the year. As a junior, he had led the nation in both scoring and rebounding. He was a certain NBA first- round lottery pick in the draft just a few months hence. Since the age of twelve his goal had been to reach the NBA and release his mother and brothers from the grip of poverty in one of the worst slums in America. His dream ended in a nightmare during a West Coast Conference Tournament game on March 4 that was watched by his family and thousands of fans at courtside and later on national television. Hank threw down one of his trademark tomahawk dunks and was headed back up court to the cheers of his fans. He slapped his teammate’s hand, then fell slowly to the court. Within minutes Hank Gathers, who had proudly boasted of being the strongest man alive, was dead. The death of Hank Gathers triggered sweeping and dramatic changes in the way sports medicine practitioners view physical examinations and medical surveillance of all college athletes who have taken the field since. The defibrillators now at the ready in all major arenas have saved the lives of athletes and spectators alike and are part of the legacy of Hank Gathers. Author Max Siegel will be in as well to talk about his insightful book, Know What Makes Them Tick. Max started with none of the obvious advantages, yet again and again he built mutually beneficial partnerships–with peers, mentors, supervisors, and industry leaders–that took him to the heights of professional and personal achievement. He’s managed some of the world’s top recording artists, ballplayers, and race-car drivers, and helped run some of the top organizations in sports and entertainment. He’s grown fragmented niche markets into bestselling audiences by tapping into the universal hopes and passions that bring people together. Now he travels the country giving motivational speeches and inspiring professionals of all kinds, sharing his method for connecting with people, whatever their differences. The secret, Siegel says, is to know what makes others tick. For some, it’s financial security; for others, it’s respect, devotion to family, a creative calling, or a vision of a better world. He shows how to encourage people to share these hidden, all-important motivations, and how to partner with them in the most powerful way there is: by finding the overlap between their goals and yours, so that together you can realize the dreams that make you tick.
