He will be here to tell us how to take control over the messiest and most used room in the house, our kitchens! It’s central command. It’s a homework station. It’s an arts and crafts studio. It’s a playroom. And, oh yeah, we eat in there, too! The kitchen is the heart of the home. And it lives many lives in any given day. Because it’s such a popular place, it’s hard to keep it clean. And if it’s not clean, it can’t be organized. If it’s not organized, it can’t be kept clean. What are we to do? Peter Walsh, America’s home organization expert and host of a forthcoming show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, says the kitchen is primed for a “Home CleanOver.” The CleanOver is similar to a home make-over, designed to help people rethink the way they clean and organize their homes from the floor up. Internet safety at home, with our families, is a concern for every parent. My next guest will be her to talk to us about how we can accomplish that without “spying”. Karl L. Rubinstein is a retired business litigator and was the senior partner of Rubinstein & Perry, a firm with offices in Texas and California. His law practice concentrated on troubled financial institutions and he was Chief Counsel for insurance regulators in Texas, California, Arkansas, and Ohio. He also functioned as Special Deputy Insurance Commissioner, Special Insurance Examiner, and/or Chief Deputy Rehabilitator in Texas, California, and Ohio. His cases included several of the largest insurance company insolvencies of the twentieth century. He has drafted and litigated over new legislation. He has successfully dealt with the kinds of issues addressed in the new law. What Did the New Financial Regulation Law Miss? Our Expert Describes Loopholes That May Reduce New Law’s Effectiveness. After the Civil War, war veterans and their families who wished to look at their military records were made to come to Washington, D.C. to examine them in person. The wait time was intolerable, and in many cases, it took months to locate an individual’s files. They were poorly organized, many being wrapped in giant bundles stacked like a mountain in the government’s warehouse. And they were bound together with red tape. The new law, despite its many benefits, has plenty of red tape. “The bill’s laudable ambition is marred by significant omissions and complexity,” said Karl Rubinstein, a retired business litigator who specialized in troubled banks and insurance companies (www.karlrubinstein.com ). “Every line of a statute carries weight, and it’s easy to forget for every action there can be an equal and opposite reaction. The financial industry doesn’t consider the fight over just because the law passed. Moreover, the messy litigation we face won’t compare to the mess that the law’s new bureaucracy will generate. I worry it’ll be like the Marx Brothers all trying to go through a door at the same time.”
Sherrie A. Madia PhD is Director of Communications at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches Social Media and Communication Strategies. She also serves on the Advisory Board of EyeCatcher Digital, a tech strategy and marketing firm. With fellow social media strategist Paul Borgese, she is coauthor of The Social Media Survival Guide: Everything You Need to Know to Grow Your Business Exponentially with Social Media (Second Edition). The big idea: Businesses large and small are not making the most of social media marketing opportunities. For example, one recent study showed that three quarters (73) of the Fortune 100 have registered a total of 540 Twitter accounts. Yet more than half (52%) of those accounts are stagnant, as measured by number of links, hashtags, references, and retweets. Another study found that 28% of Fortune 100 Facebook pages had generated little or no comments. Social media strategist and author Sherrie Madia PhD calls this "tweeting in the dark," and says Twitter neglect and dormant Facebooks are commonplace and make up what she terms "social media blight" in today's otherwise vibrant new media landscape. In her critically acclaimed book, The Social Media Survival Guide, Madia offers creative ideas for small businesses to liven up their social media sites and use them to attract and engage new clients and customers, shape their brand, and become a sought-after source for useful information. Madia says being a user of social media and being a smart user of social media are two different skills. She shares 5 of the most common social media mistakes businesses make, and can discuss:Why you need a social media plan before putting yourself out there -- and how to develop one How to avoid classic social media blunders -- from Wal-mart's failed "Wal-marting Across America" campaign to BP's lack of a social media strategy, which could have helped them enormously during one of the biggest corporate crises in recent history How to put together a social media team for your biz -- and who's best suited to be on it Tried-and-true tricks to get people tweeting, friending, and responding to your blogs, wikis, and podcasts Examples of companies that got it right -- with lively, consistently engaged social media fans and followers Find out more about her and the book at www.SocialMediaCentral.com .
Tez (who also produced the show) displays what seems to me a pitch-perfect Bronx accent and a powerful mixture of vulnerability and aggression which makes her a name to watch. London is over-supplied with talented young actresses, but this is one performer who deserves to be seen on a bigger stage.
