America’s future rides on developing low-cost energy sources, and the feds had the right idea investing job stimulus dollars in Solyndra, says nuclear scientist Dr. Michael T. Gamble (www.zeroscape-thebook.com ).They just chose the wrong company.Dr. Gamble, author of the high-tech thriller “Zeroscape,” worked extensively with alternative energy sources at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. He says there are several viable options we should be pursuing.Solyndra, a solar power company, got a $535 million federal loan before declaring bankruptcy earlier this year. That’s now the focus of a congressional investigation.“Solyndra was never even close to manufacturing cost-effective, competitive solar panels,” he says of the company that got millions in federal job stimulus dollars before declaring bankruptcy. “Their cost was $3 to $6 per watt. Nanosolar in San Jose, Calif., is close to achieving 60 cents per watt.”Americans need to think seriously about sustainable energy sources if we want to grow the economy, Gamble says. Inexpensive energy fuels innovation.

I will also have an interview with Captain Mark Schrader to discuss ONE ISLAND, ONE OCEAN.One Island, One Ocean is the extravagant, exuberant (most of the time) and emphatically impressive account (both pictorial and verbal) of a 13 month multi-ocean journey. The Bruce Roberts 64’steel hull cutter, Ocean Watch sailed from Seattle, Washington, north through the Northwest Passage, then south around Cape Horn and back to Seattle. Ocean Watch was skippered by Mark Schrader, who had completed two single handed circumnavigations before he was forty. Crew included Herb McCormick, who has logged over 75,000 miles in his sailing career and also happens to be an award winning writer specializing in all things marine. Photographer, David Thoreson, also a seasoned sailor, provides page after page of breathtaking photos that will awe and inspire; in many cases they are printed in two-page spreads…that presents the reader/viewer with a 10” x 23” photograph. Any number of these will take your breath away.
Mark Binder was born in 1962 in Newton, MA -- but he never lived there. Instead, he's lived in Cambridge, Boston, Washington, London, New York City, San Antonio, and now Providence, RI. He has been writing stories for children and adults for more than 20 years. His work regularly appears in Cricket Magazine. Mark believes that reading and storytelling are critical to children's development of literacy skills. His first novel, The Brothers Schlemiel was published in a beautifully illustrated hardback edition. His "auto-biographical" collection, IT ATE MY SISTER is humorous and fun for kids and adults with a sense of humor. Mark is also the author of novel, THE BROTHERS SCHLEMIEL. A HANUKKAH PRESENT is a joyful collection of eleven multigenerational tales and a brand-new novella for families of every background. Written by an award-winning author and storyteller.

This afternoon I will be talking to one of my most revered and special guests! He has been my mentor, and Burton Goldberg will be here this hour talking about the latest developments in anti-aging! If you want to know what’s on the forefront in alternative medicine, ask publisher Burton Goldberg. If you want to know which therapies work best and what’s politically urgent, he’s your man. He’s spent over 30 years carefully researching every aspect of holistic medicine, from California to Israel, Mexico to Russia. But it’s taken only a few years for this self-made businessman to emerge as “The Voice of Alternative Medicine.” What you most need to know about Burton Goldberg is that he has a mission to reform American medicine and to help Americans reclaim their health. He wants people to know that with alternative medicine, every disease is reversible. In trauma and emergency situations, mainstream medicine can work wonders. But in the vast majority of health conditions, alternative medicine has the treatments that can help. These effective alternative treatments are based on clinical studies and verifiable results--results that have been ignored by conventional medicine. But patients are changing this, patients want therapies that work, that give them healing, and that don’t bankrupt them. Visit his website after the show, it offers Alternative Medicine Essays, books, Congressional Testimony, and many helpful videos. www.burtongoldberg.com
I will have Holly Corbett, from PREVENTION.com. The holidays are here! And for many of us, that means this a VERY EMOTIONAL time of year. So what can do you about HOLIDAY MOOD SWINGS? Here are some tips, from the PREVENTION.COM story at www.prevention.com/boostmood called: “5 WAYS TO EASILY IMPROVE YOUR MOOD.” HAPPY, HOLIDAY MOOD TIP #1: DO A GOOD DEED FOR SOMEBODY ELSE Are you in a holiday funk? If so, then why not try to shake that funk loose... ...by doing a good deed for somebody else? Why will this help? Because research shows that people who volunteer and help others... ...are likelier to be happier than those who don’t. And this happiness factor appears to be true... ...regardless of how much money people make, or other socioeconomic factors. And here’s why it works: Researchers believe that volunteering boosts happiness because it increases empathy... ...which then helps YOU appreciate all the good stuff in YOUR own life. HAPPY, HOLIDAY MOOD TIP #2: HIT THE GYM Are you in a holiday funk? If so, then why not try to shake that funk loose... ...by heading over to the gym for a workout? And here’s why this will help: Exercise sparks the release of feel-good endorphins... ...and it also satisfies something more profound in us, which is the human need to perform and excel. But wait, there’s more: Although ANY type of fitness activity you enjoy is good... ...you can enhance its benefits even more by taking your mood-busting exercise OUTDOORS.
