The Dressmaker of Khair Khana tells the incredible true story of this unlikely entrepreneur who mobilized her community under the Taliban. Former ABC News reporter Gayle Tzemach Lemmon spent years on the ground reporting Kamila's story, and the result is an unusually intimate and unsanitized look at the daily lives of women in Afghanistan. These women are not victims; they are the glue that holds families together; they are the backbone and the heart of their nation. Afghanistan's future remains uncertain as debates over withdrawal timelines dominate the news. The Dressmaker of Khair Khana moves beyond the headlines to transport you to an Afghanistan you have never seen before. This is a story of war, but it is also a story of sisterhood and resilience in the face of despair. Kamila Sidiqi's journey will inspire you, but it will also change the way you think about one of the most important political and humanitarian issues of our time. www.gaylelemmon.com
When Ronald Reagan was elected, he had years of media experience under his belt. No wonder he beat the sitting President Carter who never mastered Presidential gravitas in office. Twenty years earlier, Kennedy trounced Nixon in the television debates because he was incredibly telegenic and the sweaty Nixon had a 5 o’clock shadow. Since then, media skills have become as important — if not more important — than the intelligence, integrity and ideology of the candidate. “Let’s face it. Abraham Lincoln could never get elected today,” says Dixie Swanson, a former TV personality, a former employee of a Washington Insider and author of “The Accidental President Trilogy” (www.DixieSwanson.com ).

In the study conducted by the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation of Chicago, major league baseball players sniffed jasmine-impregnated wristbands prior to each batting trial. The players were independently assessed regarding the mechanics of their swings, including trajectory, ball flight, bat speed, and bat swing zone. Compared to the no-odor trials, jasmine significantly improved all batting parameters. Lead investigator, Alan Hirsch, M.D., speculates, “These results extend our prior works demonstrating that jasmine improves reaction time in other athletic performances, including bowling. These results may generalize to more than just producing the better baseball player. Jasmine could enhance other endeavors involving hand-eye coordination – anywhere from microneurosurgery to musical performance.” As the founder and neurological director of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, Dr. Hirsch specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of many smell- and taste-related disorders. http://www.smellandtaste.org/
