Our protracted recession and historically high unemployment numbers have proved at least one thing: Employers don’t like to fill job openings with unemployed people, no matter how long they’ve been without a job. That’s according to a recent UCLA study.
“Despite new numbers that indicate the unemployment rate has just barely dipped below 8 percent, the real un- and underemployment rate is much higher,” says Bob Prosen, creator of the Career Accelerator Program, a new way to fight unemployment, and author of “Kiss Theory Good Bye,” (
www.bobprosen.com .)
Although experts have long suspected that potential employers carry a bias against unemployed job candidates, researchers were surprised to learn that held firm no matter how long candidates have been unemployed and despite the reason. Which means blindly distributing resumes for posted job openings just doesn’t cut it anymore, says Prosen.

A crucial plot twist is happening right now in the book industry. While brick-and-mortar stores continue to disappear and traditional, big-name publishers cannot see clearly how the next chapter will unfold, e-book sales are earning plenty of optimism.
Total industry sales were up 4.4 percent, to $5.79 billion, in the first half of 2012, according to figures recently released by the Association of American Publishers.
E-books sales are not only continuing to rise worldwide – they are also contributing to the sale of hard-copy books, says Michael Levin, a New York Times best-selling author, renowned ghostwriter and founder of
www.Businessghost.com .
“When people of a certain age really, really like a book, they often prefer to have it in the traditional print-on-paper format, so I can easily see how digital books promote hardcopy sales,” he says. “While technology is changing our relationship with all media, it’s not necessarily making old outlets obsolete.”

As a teenager and young man, Justin Lee felt deeply torn. Nicknamed "God Boy" by his peers, he knew that he was called to a life in the evangelical Christian ministry. But Lee harbored a secret: He also knew that he was gay. In this groundbreaking book, Lee recalls the events--his coming out to his parents, his experiences with the "ex-gay" movement, and his in-depth study of the Bible--that led him, eventually, to self-acceptance.
But more than just a memoir, TORN provides insightful, practical guidance for all committed Christians who wonder how to relate to gay friends or family members--or who struggle with their own sexuality. Convinced that "in a culture that sees gays and Christians as enemies, gay Christians are in a unique position to bring peace," Lee demonstrates that people of faith on both sides of the debate can respect, learn from, and love one another.
