Dr. Johnny Lops was a tough Brooklyn street kid who went on to become a working professional actor, avid marathoner, and then a skilled, perceptive psychiatrist. He combined his own life lessons with years of training to forge a no-nonsense, uplifting method to help his patients reinvent themselves. While there are countless books by doctors and experts, most authors hide behind an impersonal cloak of professional objectivity. Instead, Lops digs deep into his own life, sharing his own fears and experiences, and writes with unusual candor and humor. His practical tools blend empathy and compassion with a healthy dose of streets smarts as well. A Board-certified practicing psychiatrist for adults, adolescents and children, Dr. Lops is the former team psychiatrist for the Brooklyn Nets, a professional actor, and serious marathoner. His new book, Reinvent Yourself: Essential Tools from a Brooklyn Psychiatrist Who Has Seen It All, is filled with motivations, insights, keen observations and useful tools — equal parts memoir and practical guide. Don’t let your life and potential to be thwarted by negative past experiences and negative thoughts. You can break away from them, as the author shows — starting with his own life on the streets of Brooklyn.
