In her new book Autism Adulthood: Strategies and Insights for a Fulfilling Life, Susan Senator takes the mystery out of adult life on the autism spectrum and conveys the positive message that even though autism adulthood is complicated and challenging, there are many ways to make it manageable and enjoyable. From her own son with autism, now in his twenties, she has learned to “never say never.” Autism Adulthood features thirty interviews with autistic adults, their parents, caregivers, researchers, and professionals. Each vignette reveals firsthand a family’s challenge, their circumstances, their thought processes, and their unique solutions and plans of action. Sharing the wisdom that emerges from parents’ and self-advocates’ experiences, Senator adds her own observations and conclusions based on her long-term experience with autism. Told in Senator’s trademark warm, honest, and approachable style, Autism Adulthood paints a vivid and thought-provoking picture of many people grappling with grown-up, real-life autism. Senator’s is the only book of its kind, as real families share their stories and their creative solutions. Ξ A recent Gallup poll says 63% of millennials have college degrees – they’re the best-educated generation in American history. But many of them took the saying “Do what you love, the money will follow” to heart, and didn’t major in things that are particularly interesting to employers. They need to translate what they’ve learned – or their youth and energy, or their understanding of other millennials – into talking points that will grab employers’ interest. Lenann McGookey Gardner, MBA, CSP President of Lenann McGookey Gardner Management Consulting, Inc.will be here to talk about leveraging what you know to gt a job. Ξ Ξ In THE MARVELOUS PIGNESS OF PIGS: Respecting and Caring for All God’s Creations, Joel Salatin presents a simple thesis: all of God’s creation, the physical world, is an object lesson of spiritual truth. Therefore, it must all be treated with decency and respect, including what we put on our tables and how it got there. His new book reflects his dirt-under-the-fingernails experience and voice; it is punctuated with a firm stance against corporate farming and the culture of greed, and is marked with his trademark mischievous humor. Joel urges a reexamination of America's allegiance to cheap, nutritionally bankrupt food that destroys creation in its production, impoverishes third world countries, and supports oligarchical interests. Salatin questions why Christians ignore and even revel in unhealthy eating habits and factory farming that run counter to God's design. Incorporating Scripture and Biblical stories, he presents an alternative and shows readers that in appreciating the pigness of pigs, we celebrate the Glory of God.

A newly released study provided good news for at least some breast cancer patients who dread the effects of chemotherapy treatment. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, concluded that a genetic test may be able to determine whether women with early stage breast cancer can skip chemotherapy and instead rely on hormone therapy. Diana Warren, a breast cancer survivor, finds the study’s results heartening.“I think it’s always important for cancer patients to explore all the options that might be available for their care,” says Warren, 76, co-author with her daughter Jamie Beardsley of the book “Say No to Radiation and Conventional Chemo: Winning My Battle Against Stage 2 Breast Cancer”. Warren reached her own decision about forgoing radiation and standard chemotherapy soon after her diagnosis. She decided she was unwilling to continue to subject herself to the “grueling, horrible” ordeal of chemotherapy. Her decision launched her into a search for effective natural, non-toxic alternatives and landed her at the door of Dr. James W. Forsythe www.drforsythe.com, who recommended a genetic test to determine the best treatment for her. Once the results came back, she started a treatment that involved a lengthy list of supplements and low-dose Insulin Potentiation Therapy, a controversial treatment that uses a combination of insulin and a chemotherapy drug. “IPT is a kinder and gentler way to treat cancer with fewer negative side effects,” Forsythe says.
