This morning I will have an interview with Gregg Stebben, an editor for Men’s Health magazine. He will be hre to talk about an article featured this month. It’s a new year... ...which means it’s a great time to GET OUT OF A CAREER RUT, and GET A NEW START. And with that in mind... ...here are our tips on HOW TO GET STARTED ON A FRESH PROFESSIONAL START: FRESH-START TIP #1: MAKE SURE YOU REALLY KNOW... ...WHAT YOUR INTERESTS AND TALENTS REALLY ARE Yes, you currently have a job... ...but that doesn’t mean it makes use of all your best talents and skills and greatest interests. So in this first step, your assignment (should you decide to accept it) is to actively look for and find your best talents and skills and greatest interests... ...whether they're relevant to your current job or not. After all, only after you know what things in life bring you the greatest joy... ...are you likely to find a job or career or project that taps into your best talents and skills and greatest interests, and delivers you the greatest joy. FRESH-START TIP #2: MAKE SURE YOU LET YOURSELF......THINK AS BROADLY AS YOU CAN As you work to clearly define yourself, for yourself...you may quickly have ideas about what you should do next. But don’t stop there. After all, if your interest in baseball, for example.....that doesn’t mean that the only way you can get into the game is to be a player, down on the field. In fact, there are an infinite number of jobs within every field in proximity to your passion......so for instance, within the field of baseball, you could be an agent, front-office manager umpire, sportswriter, announcer, stat guy, or even merchandiser. And even if your interest ISN’T baseball..make sure you apply the same kind of broad thinking, to make sure you see all the options that go along with your passion and interest. FRESH-START TIP #3: BLOCK THE NOISE Got an idea or a dream you want to chase? If so, then sometimes it’s tempting to share it with everyone else...but are you sure that’s such a good idea? The truth is, at an early stage of thinking about or pursuing a new idea, well-intentioned advice from other people may drown out your own thoughts about it. So our advice is to avoid sharing your idea or dream too early, so that you can gain perspective and hear your own voice without worrying about hearing the input and even negativity of others.

David Hanscom, M.D. is an orthopedic spine surgeon who trained in orthopedic surgery at the University of Hawaii. His spine fellowship was in complex adult and pediatric spinal deformity. He completed it in 1986 at the Twin Cities Scoliosis Center in Minneapolis, MN. He currently practices at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, WA. He is a member of Swedish Neuroscience Specialists and has eight neurosurgical partners. Pain always is perceived in your brain. Unless pain centers in your brain are stimulated you will not feel pain. “Back in Control” looks at both the source of the pain and the brain as relevant. The nervous system aspect is viewed in terms of pathways not psychology. Once a pain pathway is formed it is permanent. The solution is to utilize methods that create “detours” around these established circuits. With engagement the decrease in pain is consistent. http://www.drdavidhanscom.com/book/

With the combination of tradition, innovation, and ease that have made her recipes so popular, Michele Scicolone gathers intriguing dishes from every corner of the Mediterranean and streamlines them for the slow cooker. The range is eye-opening: from simplified and freshened classics like Greek shrimp with tomatoes and feta, to Israeli sweet and sour meatballs, to Moroccan vegetable tagine, to coffee-caramel flan from Spain. But Scicolone also serves up a profusion of fascinating lesser-known dishes: a creamy polenta lasagna, a port-braised chicken from Portugal, a spiced frittata from Tunisia, and Bandit's Lamb, as well as her own seductive creations, like Cannoli Cheesecake.
