Drs. Rachael and Richard Heller, as professors and research scientists at New York's Mount Sinai School of Medicine for more than a decade, they explored the impact of stress and Comfort Foods on stress-hunger, cravings, weight gain, high blood pressure, blood lipids, adult-onset diabetes, atherosclerosis, heart disease.Throughout their lives the Hellers struggled with their intense and recurring carbohydrate cravings, the ravages of excess weight, stress-related eating and health problems. Together, they broken the stress-eating cycles that controlled their eating, weight, and health. They have lost nearly 250 pounds, have maintained their weight loss for twenty five years, and have discovered the energy, ideal health, joy, clarity of thinking, and peace of mind that stress-eating free lifestyle can bring. Even more, they have helped more than ten million others in their quest to lose weight and keep it off. All have one thing in common: Each of their hormonal imbalances dictates the type of stress that will catapult them into a Stress-Eating Cycle that won’t let go!The kinds of foods stress-eaters crave, how much and how often they eat, how much weight they gain, and where they pack on the pounds are all determined by the hormones that surge through their bodies. The Stress-Eating Cure Program is specifically designed to correct the hormonal imbalances that lead to each of these eleven different patterns of stress-eating. Correct the hormonal imbalance and stress-hunger, cravings, and the tendency to gain weight literally disappear. It’s that simple. The 114th Boston Marathon begins on Monday April 19th, and today I will have two very special participants! Last April, Ben Beach ran his 42nd consecutive Boston Marathon in 4:48—far from his 2:27 PR, but impressive considering he has dystonia, a neurological disorder. Still, Beach, 60, of Bethesda, Maryland, plans to continue his streak, he second longest in Boston history. Lisa Rainsberger won the women’s race in 2:34 and remains the last female American champion at Boston. Since her 1985 victory, she has run more than 40 marathons. This year, Rainsberger 49, of Colorado Springs, will run Boston with her husband and daughter. The very first Boston Marathon came about when John Graham experienced the spirit and majesty of the Olympic Marathon. Then B.A.A. member and inaugural US Olympic Team Manager John Graham was inspired to organize and conduct a marathon in the Boston area. With the assistance of Boston businessman Herbert H. Holton, various routes were considered, before a measured distance of 24.5 miles from Metcalf's Mill in Ashland to the Irvington Oval in Boston was eventually selected. On April 19, 1897, John J. McDermott of New York, emerged from a 15-member starting field and captured the first B.A.A. Marathon in 2:55:10, the first marathon was not only complete, but has remained a revered sports tradition that has stood the test of time.

In August 2009 Laura Munson created a firestorm with an essay in the “Modern Love” column of The New York Times. It was the #1-read and emailed article of the day; the paper had to temporarily shut down the comments section because of the overwhelming number of reader responses. Titled “Those Aren’t Fighting Words, Dear,” the essay described what happened after Munson heard this from the man to whom she had been married (happily, she believed) for nearly two decades: “I don’t love you anymore. I’m not sure I ever did. I’m moving out. The kids will understand. They’ll want me to be happy.” Munson's account did not turn into the story you might expect--a divorce story, or a begging-him-to-stay story. Instead, after recovering from the initial shock, Munson calmly told her husband, "I don't buy it. What can we do to give you the distance you need, without hurting the family?" Four months later, her marriage was not merely intact, but stronger than it had ever been. Now Munson Writes about the crisis, the hard-earned spiritual growth that was put to the test and enabled her to respond as she did, as well as her personal philosophy of taking responsibility for one's own happiness. In This Is Not The Story You Think It Is..., she offers an innovative strategy for handling crisis of any kind, and a philosophy especially well suited to our time of economic flux and displacement. Here is the modern love column that started it all. www.nytimes.com/2009/08/02/fashion/02love.html
